NORFOLK SKIES
Did you know that Norfolk’s skies are renowned for their beauty – both day and night.
The dark skies and dark landscapes of our beautiful county are among the least light polluted in the whole of England. This makes them important to the character of our county, so they deserve greater protection.
We need to remember that with levels of development increasing and people worrying about protecting their properties additional lighting sources threaten large areas of our countryside that are, at the moment, dark, rural and tranquil.
CAN I HELP?
The answer is a simple Yes – just take a look at the leaflet produced by the CPRE on this link:
It tells you all about the impact of light pollution and the benefits of reducing it.
Let’s all do our small part to keep Norfolk the beautiful county it is, especially at night.

Great News for Deopham & Hackford
Following a bid to the National Lottery Community Fund the Parish Council have been awarded a grant of just over £8,000 to provide a car parking area at Deopham Playing Field. This will be from the roadside to the farm gate at the entrance to the field and will save vehicles needing to park in a wet, muddy area and, at times, getting their cars stuck in the mud. Together with the grant awarded late last year by South Norfolk’s Community Action Fund for a mound slide for the playground the Council is hoping to start work soon at the Playing Field. The car parking area will be done first with the earth removed from the area being utilised for the mound on which to put the mound slide.
We will update once we know a start date for the works on the car parking area.

Parish Precept for 2026/2027 agreed
The Precept amount for 2026/2027 will be £11,262. The amount payable by a Band D equivalent property will be £50.96 an increase of £1 on the 2025/2026 amount equating to less than 2 pence per week. The Parish Council were minded of the current economic environment and the cost of living so kept its increase to the minimum possible at 2% – significantly less than many other Councils.
We will continue to strive to succeed with grant applications and fund-raising endeavours to ensure the play park and associated car park area can be completed as soon as possible.
